Bold headline: A rising star from the Midwest has chosen West Virginia, signaling a potential turning point for the Mountaineers.
Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Bishop Luers offensive tackle Jonas Muya announced his commitment to West Virginia on Tuesday, selecting Rich Rodriguez’s program over a group that included Oklahoma, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Purdue, among others.
Muya stands 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 280 pounds. He explained that his decision was driven by what he perceives as real momentum at WVU. “There’s something real building at WVU right now,” Muya said. “The program is rising, the energy is strong, and it’s a place where I can see myself taking big steps in my game.” He added, “It feels like the right environment to become the player I know I can be.”
From a scouting perspective, Muya is highly regarded. Rivals places him as the nation’s No. 36 offensive tackle, while the Rivals Composite ranks him No. 41 overall. With Muya joining the fold as commit No. 36 for Rich Rodriguez and his staff, he immediately becomes one of the program’s key young pieces alongside other notable lineman targets like Kevin Brown.
This recruitment signals WVU’s growing appeal to top-tier offensive linemen and adds another promising piece to a developing class under Rodriguez. As the Mountaineers continue to shape their future on the line, Muya’s size, length, and projected potential give fans reason to be optimistic about the program’s trajectory.
