Star Wars Insider Magazine: A Fond Farewell After 30+ Years (2025)

The End of an Era: Star Wars Insider Says Farewell After 30+ Years

In a recent interview, Oscar Isaac, the beloved actor who portrayed Poe Dameron, hinted at a potential return to the Star Wars universe. However, the news that Star Wars Insider, the official print magazine, is ceasing publication, might leave fans wondering where they can turn for their Star Wars fix. Lucasfilm has announced that the magazine will conclude its run with issue #237 early next year.

Christopher Cooper, the editor, shared his sentiments, stating, "Insider has been an integral part of my Star Wars journey, both as a fan and professionally. It's been a privilege to explore the galaxy with our readers over the years. But the publishing landscape has transformed significantly since the Lucasfilm Fan Club days, and we now live in a digital age, which sadly brings this chapter of Star Wars Insider's history to a close."

The magazine's roots trace back to 1978 with the Official Star Wars Fan Club newsletter, which eventually evolved into the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine in 1987. The title change to Star Wars Insider occurred with issue #23, and the magazine has been a beloved companion to Star Wars enthusiasts ever since.

As we approach the end of this era, Star Wars Insider's next issue (#235) will commemorate a different 10th anniversary: that of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The upcoming issue, set to release on December 9th, will be followed by the magazine's final two issues early next year.

But here's where it gets controversial: With the magazine's closure, will the Star Wars community lose a vital source of news and insights? And this is the part most people miss: In an increasingly digital world, how can Star Wars fans stay connected and engaged with the franchise's rich history and future developments?

What are your thoughts on the end of Star Wars Insider? Do you think the digital age has made print magazines obsolete, or is there still a place for them in the Star Wars universe? Share your opinions in the comments below!
